The redevelopment of a former Local Authority day centre on the edge of Stockwell Park Estate for Community Trust Housing. The scheme comprises a new, four storey building with 10 apartments for affordable rent and shared ownership.
The scheme is adjacent to the site of a major redevelopment of one of the estate’s larger blocks and the proposal will complete the new buildings lining the public route and add to the enhanced public realm. A major new public space lies in front of the site which will provide shared amenity space for residents and new pedestrian access through to Brixton town centre. The proposal’s form and scale are designed to complement the other new buildings and to enhance the setting of the adjacent Brixton Conservation Area.
The scheme comprises a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments designed to fully meet the Mayor’s London Housing Design Guide with all apartments meeting Lifetime Homes and with one ground floor apartment being easily adaptable to full wheelchair use. The scheme will achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
