A mixed use, high density scheme on a group of brownfield sites around Kingsland Basin in Hackney, comprising 207 apartments and approximately 6,500m2 of employment space (including health centre, artists’ studios and waterside cafe).
Located within the Kingsland and Regents Canal Conservation Areas, the scheme is a housing-led regeneration project which provides a mix of residential tenures in new buildings and a variety of workspaces in retained industrial buildings, some of which are listed, multi-storey stable buildings.
New development is grouped around the retained buildings to form a series of courtyards, or wharves, all of which open onto the historic canal basin. Central to the design is the new, extensive public access running along the west side of the Basin and linking a variety of spaces to the waterside.
The scheme meets Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and sustainable features include use of bio-diverse roofs, combined heat and power plant and new wildlife habitats along the waters edge.
